The Sacred Incan Cross, foundation of the authentic Andean wisdom, represents the “magic” of the Calchaquí Valley and is the symbol that identifies us.
The Incan theme is historically relevant because Cafayate belonged to the Incan Empire in the 15th century. From 1450 to 1480 Salta and a large part of what today is the Argentine northwest made up the region of the Incan Empire called Collasuyo. The Incan influence in the region lasted until the year 1533 when the Andean Empire fell.
This powerful empire was founded in the 12th century by a Quechuan tribe from the Lake Titicaca region, and at its height in the 15th century extended through the Andes, from Colombia to Chile and part of Argentina. The Empire was divided into four parts, or four “suyus”: Antisuyu, Collasuyu, Cuntisuyu, and Chinchasuyu, which converged in the center in Cuzco, Perú. Together they formed the Tawantisuyu “the four parts together”, in other words the Incan Empire. It appears that this division of the Empire into four parts was based on the number four’s significance of totality, fullness, perfection.
The Incans were great agriculturists and worked with staggered terraces, and with networks of irrigation channels to optimize the use of water, worshipping Mother Earth or “Pachamama”. In our winery we make high altitude wines maintaining the same respect for nature as our ancestors.
It is also our goal to contribute to spreading the richness and beauty of Incan art.
